Congress Has A Way of Shutting That Whole Thing Down...

Lame joke being used by every blogger in America today: The government may be shut down but I'm not.

It really hit me today when I saw that the We The People White House Petitions website was shutdown. Regardless of how successful those petitions are it struck me as taking away the voice of the people. Then it hit me again when both Census.gov and NOAA.gov were down (which I was trying to access to garner information for my thesis). I'm shocked at how dependent I am on federally funded websites...

More directly relevant to emergency management was this notice on ready.gov. Of all the downed federal websites FEMA came out of it pretty well but... depending on how long this shut down lasts... and what happens with the debt ceiling in the next few weeks... who knows.

As rough as this shutdown seems... not agreeing upon a higher debt ceiling is going to have WAY more and bigger implications for the US, including emergency management.
