Disaster Book Recommendations

Samantha MontanoComment

About once a day I’m asked for disaster-related book recommendations which is great! But also, we need to streamline this a bit. There are a ton of books about disasters and this post will walk you through some starting points.

All The Books.

A while ago I compiled a list of 365 disaster books. It’s not a completely comprehensive list but if should keep you busy for a very long time. If you’ve read all of those send me an e-mail and I’ll find more for you.

Monthly Recommendations.

I include a book recommendation each month in my newsletter. You can subscribe to the newsletter here. I also try to keep a running update on Twitter.

My Book.

Hi. I’ve written a book. It comes out on August 3rd. 1. You should read my book. 2. There are pages and pages and pages of endnotes that have even more book recommendations. You can pre-order it here.

Book Recommendations By Subject.

I have a blog post here with recommendations for books to help you understand the COVID pandemic.

A while ago I made videos with more specific recommendations by subject including academic books, historical non-fiction, disaster capitalism, Hurricane Katrina and the Levee Failure, popular non-fiction, and climate change.
